Understanding SHIMANO BR Hose Kit Part Numbers
How to make sense of Shimano's hydraulic brake hose kit part numbers

SHIMANO Hydraulic Disc Brakes are designed as a complete system – lever, caliper, and hose need to match up in order for the
system to function as intended. Sometimes this can be difficult to do, as many of the SHIMANO part numbers for brake hose kits
are very similar to one another. This guide will show you how to understand those numbers and make sure that you’re using the
right kit for the job.
Categories of Options and Their Notation
• Hose type – use the hose type required by the brake LEVER
o High-pressure BH90 – ISMBH90 or ESMBH90
o Low-pressure BH59 – ISMBH59 or ESMBH59
• Caliper-side Connector – long banjo fittings help to dissipate heat more quickly on gravity-oriented MTB calipers while
magnesium calipers such as BR-M987 or BR-M9000 should use only Corrosion-resistant Banjo fittings
o Flare Nut (also known as a Straight Connecting Bolt) - S, JK, or JKS
o Long Saint-style Banjo – BS
o Normal (Short) Banjo – B
o Corrosion-Resistant Banjo – BM
• Hose Color
o Black – L
o White – W
• Length – denoted in Centimeters
o 200 or 170
• Iteration – if any
o A or B
Categories of Options and Their Notation
